Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in North America—and it’s especially popular among seniors. Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, this paddle sport is easy to learn, low-impact, and endlessly fun.
Pickleball is played on a court about one-quarter the size of a tennis court. Players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball (similar to a wiffle ball) over a net. It can be played as singles or doubles, and the rules are simple: serve underhand, rally until someone faults, and score only when serving. Games typically go to 11 points.
The pace can be relaxed or competitive, making it ideal for all skill levels.
Over half of all pickleball players are 55 or older, and nearly a third are 65-plus. With its blend of physical exercise, mental stimulation, and social engagement, pickleball is more than a sport—it’s a lifestyle enhancer for seniors.
