What began as a spark of determination from one remarkable woman has grown into a thriving community of more than 250 members. On our 25th anniversary, the Terrace Bay Superior Seniors Club gathered to celebrate not just a milestone year, but the people, stories, and spirited moments that built the club we cherish today.
The evening was filled with smiles as members reflected on the early days—when Joan Clark, armed with vision and grit, rallied support from anyone who would listen. With the help of early members like Mert Burrows, Shirley Caron, Rita McBride, and Danielle Boulianne, the club took shape, meeting wherever space could be found and bringing their own dishes, decorations, and enthusiasm to every event.
Laughter echoed through the room as longtime members recalled themed nights featuring cowboy hats, newspaper skirts, and the now‑legendary toilet‑paper Hawaiian costumes. These moments weren’t just fun—they were the foundation of a community built on creativity, camaraderie, and a willingness to pitch in.
The celebration also honoured the volunteers who transformed St. Martin School into the vibrant centre we enjoy today. From construction cleanup to waxing floors, installing signage, and setting up pool tables, their dedication turned an empty building into a welcoming home for seniors across Terrace Bay.
And of course, no reflection on our history would be complete without acknowledging the years of support from the local drag races. For 25 years, our members parked cars, sold tickets, and picked up garbage—earning generous donations that helped fund our annual Christmas dinner and other programs.
As we celebrated this milestone, we also recognized the leadership of our past and present presidents, the ongoing support of the Township of Terrace Bay, and the countless members who have given their time, energy, and heart to the club.
Twenty‑five years later, the spirit that started it all is stronger than ever. Here’s to the next chapter—filled with friendship, laughter, and many more unforgettable nights.
