Assisting Seniors

🌟 Lending a Hand, Sharing a Heart: How Terrace Bay Volunteers Can Support Seniors Beyond the Club

In Terrace Bay, the spirit of community doesn’t stop at the doors of the Superior Seniors Club—it radiates outward, touching lives across town. While many volunteer efforts are centered within the club’s welcoming walls, a growing number of seniors living independently in the community are in need of extra support. These are our neighbours, our friends, and often the very people who helped build the town we cherish today.

As we age, simple tasks can become daunting. For some seniors, mobility challenges, health conditions, or the loss of a partner can make everyday errands feel overwhelming. That’s where the Terrace Bay Superior Seniors Club—and you—come in.

🛒 Everyday Tasks, Extraordinary Impact

The needs are varied, but they’re all deeply human:

  • Meals on Wheels: Delivering hot, nutritious meals to seniors who may not be able to cook for themselves.
  • Grocery Pickup: Helping with weekly shopping or picking up pre-ordered groceries.
  • Pharmacy Runs: Ensuring timely access to medications and health essentials.
  • Mail Collection: Picking up mail or parcels from the Post Office or Purolator depot.
  • Yard Work: Mowing lawns, raking leaves, or shoveling snow to keep homes safe and tidy.
  • Garbage Assistance: Taking out trash bins or helping with recycling on collection days.

These tasks may seem small, but they carry immense weight. They preserve dignity, foster independence, and remind our seniors that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

🤝 The Volunteer Process: How You Can Get Involved

The Terrace Bay Superior Seniors Club has created a simple, supportive pathway for volunteers to get involved:

  1. Express Interest: Members can speak directly with Colleen Dittrich, Office Manager and Club Coordinator, or sign up at the front desk. A short form helps match volunteers with tasks that suit their availability and comfort level.
  2. Orientation & Support: New volunteers receive a brief orientation, including safety tips, communication guidelines, and contact information for backup support. You’re never alone in your efforts.
  3. Flexible Scheduling: Whether you have an hour a week or a few afternoons a month, your time is welcome. Volunteers can choose from one-time tasks or recurring commitments.
  4. Community Connection: Volunteers are encouraged to share stories, feedback, and suggestions. The club regularly celebrates volunteer contributions through newsletters, coffee socials, and recognition events.

🌈 Why It Matters

Volunteering isn’t just about helping others—it’s about building a stronger, more connected Terrace Bay. It’s about honoring the legacy of those who came before us and ensuring that no senior feels forgotten or alone.

Whether you’re retired, semi-retired, or simply looking to give back, your time and kindness can make a world of difference.
