Title: Online Shopping with Amazon

Welcome back! In the last lesson, you learned how to use Uber and Lyft to get rides when you need them. That gave you more freedom to travel anywhere.

Now, let’s look at something that brings the store right to your door: Amazon. Amazon is one of the biggest online shopping platforms in the world. You can order almost anything — books, clothes, household items, even groceries — and have it delivered to your home.

By the end of this lesson, you’ll know how to:

  • Download and set up the Amazon app
  • Search for and browse items
  • Place an order step by step
  • Track packages and manage returns

Step 1: What Is Amazon?

Amazon is an online store that sells millions of products. Instead of driving to a store, you can shop from your phone and have items shipped to you.

👉 Quick Tip: Many items arrive in just a few days, and some even the next day with Prime membership.

Step 2: Downloading and Setting Up Amazon

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for Amazon Shopping.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. Open the app.
  5. Sign in with an existing Amazon account or create a new one.
    • You’ll need your name, email, and password.
    • Add your home address for delivery.
    • Add a payment method (credit card, debit card, or gift card).

Now you’re ready to shop!

Step 3: Searching for Items

  1. Tap the search bar at the top of the app.
  2. Type in what you want, like “wireless headphones” or “coffee maker.”
  3. Browse the results. Each item shows:
    • Picture
    • Price
    • Star rating
    • Number of reviews

👉 Quick Tip: The more reviews and higher rating, the more reliable the item usually is.

Step 4: Viewing Product Details

Tap on a product to see more details:

  • Description (what it does)
  • Reviews from other buyers
  • Shipping options (when it will arrive)

👉 Always read at least a few reviews before buying.

Step 5: Placing an Order

  1. Once you’ve chosen an item, tap Add to Cart.
  2. When ready, tap the cart icon at the top right.
  3. Review your items.
  4. Tap Proceed to Checkout.
  5. Confirm your delivery address and payment method.
  6. Tap Place Your Order.

That’s it — your item is on its way!

Step 6: Tracking Packages

After ordering:

  1. Open the Amazon app.
  2. Tap the menu (three lines).
  3. Tap Your Orders.
  4. Select your recent order to see tracking information.

👉 Quick Tip: You can see when it ships, when it’s out for delivery, and when it arrives.

Step 7: Returns and Refunds

If you don’t like an item or it’s damaged, Amazon makes returns simple.

  1. Go to Your Orders.
  2. Tap the item.
  3. Tap Return or Replace Items.
  4. Choose a reason for the return.
  5. Follow instructions to print a return label or get a QR code for drop-off.

👉 Many items can be returned for free.

Step 8: Practice Together

Let’s practice:

  1. Open the Amazon app.
  2. Search for a simple item, like “notebook.”
  3. Add it to your cart (but don’t check out yet).
  4. View your cart and practice removing the item.

This way, you learn without actually spending money.

Real-Life Example

One of my students, Alice, used to struggle with grocery shopping during winter. She learned to order essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, and canned goods through Amazon. She said, “I don’t worry about carrying heavy bags anymore — they come right to my door.”

Another student, Robert, found replacement batteries for his remote control online when no local stores carried them. He said, “It saved me so much time and frustration.”

Troubleshooting Tips

  • I forgot my password: Tap “Forgot Password” to reset.
  • Payment declined: Check your card details or try another payment method.
  • Item out of stock: Search for another seller or similar item.
  • Delivery delayed: Check tracking for updates — sometimes weather causes delays.

Step 9: Extra Features

Once you’re comfortable, explore:

  • Wish List: Save items you want for later.
  • Subscribe & Save: Set up regular deliveries for items like vitamins or pet food.
  • Amazon Prime: For a monthly fee, get free fast shipping and extras like movies and music.

These features are optional — the basics of searching, ordering, and tracking are all you need to start.

Wrap-Up & Next Steps

Let’s review today’s lesson:

  • Amazon lets you shop for almost anything from home.
  • You can search, add items to your cart, and place an order in minutes.
  • Tracking your packages and returning items is simple.

Your take-action tool for today:

  • Search for one item you might need on Amazon.
  • Add it to your cart and review the checkout process.
  • Explore “Your Orders” to see how tracking works.

In the next lesson, we’ll cover another daily helper: food delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats — so you can order meals right to your door.

You’re doing fantastic — I’ll see you in Module 8, Lesson 4: Ordering Food Delivery (DoorDash/Uber Eats).
